OAU Admission Requirements

Gaining admission into Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) requires meeting specific academic criteria, particularly for candidates applying through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The requirements are outlined below:

  1. Applicants must have at least five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, from the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE) or General Certificate of Education (GCE).
  2. Candidates must select the correct JAMB subject combination for their desired course of study. Choosing an incorrect combination may result in disqualification.
  3. A minimum UTME score of 180 is required for most programs. However, highly competitive courses like Medicine, Law, and Engineering may demand higher scores.
  4. OAU must be selected as the first/most preferred choice during JAMB registration. Applicants who do not prioritize OAU are unlikely to be considered.
  5. Participation in the OAU post-UTME screening is mandatory. This screening assesses applicants’ eligibility and suitability for their chosen program.
  6. Candidates must be at least 16 years old at the time of admission.

OAU Requirements for Direct Entry (DE)

For candidates applying through Direct Entry, the following prerequisites must be met:

  1. A minimum of five (5) O’ Level credits, including English Language, Mathematics, and three other relevant subjects, obtained in no more than two sittings from the SSCE or GCE.
  2. Successful completion of A’ Level/IJMB in two subjects relevant to the intended course of study.
  3. Possession of JUPEB/A’ Level results in related fields is also accepted.
  4. Applicants with a First Class or Second Class Upper degree in a relevant discipline may also qualify.
  5. Direct Entry candidates must obtain the OAU Direct Entry form through JAMB and the OAU portal.
